An Evening in Central Park

A Formal Dance

In order to provide our youth with a prom experience in a wholesome and uplifting environment, the 1st Atlanta LDS Prom was held six years ago. It has been anxiously anticipated and enormously enjoyed every year since. We warmly invite you to attend this year’s prom, “An Evening in Central Park,” May 12, 2012, from 7:30 – 10:30 pm at the Forsyth Conference Center. Come with or without a date, come in groups, just COME! It will be AWESOME! Invite your school friends, too. Lots of fun, plenty of room!

What to Do

1. Register by clicking on the registration tab. Your friends need to register themselves.
2. Print out your emailed ticket.
3. Get your prom attire. Maintain the dress standards found in For the Strength of Youth. See Standards tab for more details on attire, and look at links page for ideas.
4. Remember to bring your ticket!

Do I Need a Date?

No.

We encourage everyone to come, with or without dates and in groups.

What are the age restrictions on this dance?

You must be 16 on the day of the dance, be a Priest/Laurel and must also be attending high school.

Can my guest be older or younger than 16 - 18? Can I register for them?

Non-member guests must also meet all of the requirements concerning age, dress, and behavior standards. Have your friends register themselves; if you try to register for them, it might mess up your registration (use a different email for each person).

Helping them register is a great idea.

What if I am not currently enrolled in a public or private high school?

Those youth, ages 16-18, who are home schooled or who have graduated early (this would be their graduating year), and meet all of the other requirements for prom are also eligible to attend.

What do I need to bring with me at check-in?

Your Emailed Ticket must be presented at check in.

What happens if I forget my ticket?

There will be people from your stake at the registration table that can help you.

How low-cut is low-cut? What does revealing mean?

Use your honest best judgement, as according to the For the Strength of Youth. Please consult with your parents and youth leaders for additional advice.

We are aware that it is far easier to acquire dresses that are immodest rather than modest. Find a dress that suits you and is compliant with the standards. Shrugs are appropriate as long as they stay on the entire evening and do not slip.

We expect wholesome dress and behavior from everyone attending the dance.

Will there be chaperones?

Yes, the event will be well chaperoned. The chaperone assignments will come from each of the stakes participating in the prom.

My dad isn’t sure that this will be safe. What about security? Is the area safe?

The Forsyth Conference Center is located at Lanier Technical College in Forsyth County. The area is statistically very safe. The college will provide one security officer. In addition, we will have chaperones walking the parking lot and halls, dance floor and other areas. The parking lot will be staffed with chaperones from the beginning of the evening until after the attendee’s have departed. Chaperones will also be at the main entrance, the only entrance and exit that will be utilized.

Standards Expectations

• High dress standards and good conduct are expected. Unfortunately those who do not adhere to these guidelines will be turned away at the door.
• This is your opportunity to dress up and bring your best manners and courtesy.
• When you register, you agree to maintain these standards throughout the whole evening.

  Formalwear (Tuxedo) or Coat and tie

  Cummerbund or vest optional

• Young Ladies

  A dress that covers the shoulder, is not low-cut in the front or the back or revealing in any other manner.

  Dress length to the knee or longer.
